On October 16, Professors Michael Sanders, Dave Hubble, and Eric Anderson from the RWC eMedia Department were invited to speak at the regional Broadcast Education Association (BEA) conference about the RWC capstone process. The BEA is an international academic organization that focuses on the electronic media, providing a forum for issues and topics of mutual concern to educators and practitioners, thus to facilitate interaction between academicians and leaders in the industry.
The capstone process, also known as the Degree Project, is required for students in the RWC eMedia Program in order for them to graduate.
During the seminar, the professors shared how their eMedia philosophy differed from the philosophy of many capstone projects at many other universities. At RWC the eMedia Department believes that the degree project is a guided experience that gives each student a good sense of skill building. It also offers the students the ability to create a final portfolio, which will help them get a foot in the door with employers.
According to the RWC professors, the seminar was well attended and received. Many attendees asked for more information on the process.
While at the conference, Sanders, Hubble, and Anderson were also asked to write an article on the capstone process. This article will be posted in the BEA Journal.
The regional conference was held at the UC CCM campus and hosted by the CCM eMedia Department.
